Glenn Beck Aired A Horrible Sexual Assault Skit, Called It Humor

theblazerapeskit

Last month, the White House made recommendations on how to fight sexual assault on college campuses across America. They found that one in five?women on college campuses had been?sexually assaulted. What was Republican response? Let’s try to disprove the statistics while being as boorish as we can!

Rather than debate maturely and respectfully, Glenn Beck’s The BlazeTV decided to bring humor to the subject of rape, and they did not fail to provide a nauseating performance. Skits were performed acting out examples of questions that were on the 2007 Campus Sexual Assault Report and 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey. And yes, they were repugnant.

Media Matters states:

?? Beck presented a pre-recorded segment by The Blaze’s Stu Burguiere, which featured skit performances of sexual assault scenarios in which network radio host Jeff Fisher propositioned another man in a blonde wig and skirt.?

Yea… that’s what they did.

Burguiere made claims that the number of assaults were ?massively inflated and made this argument about the involvement of drugs and alcohol in rapes:

Newsflash: I hate to say it, but it is possible to have consensual sex while drunk or high. Watch any beer commercial. What you’ll see is a bunch of hot women and good-looking dudes drinking beer with a strong insinuation that they will soon be hooking up. Yes, it’s true, it’s true. When you drink alcohol, you lose your inhibitions. That is also why you drink alcohol. If you eliminate sex while drunk or high, you eliminate about half the sex in the entire United States. But this survey was designed in a way to massively inflate the number of victims. To illustrate this point, I’ll bring in rape-expert Jeff Fisher. Here’s some questions that the study actually used to determine whether a woman was raped. Jeffy, please act these out.

And Jeffy sure did act them out. He presented examples of questions in which Burguiere would jump out with a large arrow with RAPE printed on it and exclaim ?That’s rape!? sarcastically.

Burguiere ended his segment with this quote in relation to the questions:

Now are those things annoying? Yes. But is convincing someone to sleep with you because you’re sad, the equivalent of a sexual assault? I mean that’s just absurd.

I believe Mr. Burguiere that the absurdity is how you blatantly overlook the fact the CDC study listed sexual coercion, which is what your skits talk about, as a separate statistic. In fact, 44.6% of women reported coercion vs. just shy of 1 in 5 reported having been raped. Obviously from your attitude, it can be assumed that sexual coercion is fine by you and should only be considered annoying.

Rape is wrong. Sexual coercion is wrong. Let’s just establish that sir. Furthermore, I believe that regarding sexual abuse in such a jovial, jolly, and lighthearted manner does your right-wing party no favors in winning the hearts of women. Stick your foot in your mouth some more Mr. Burguiere and alienate the women of America even more. They will be welcome with open arms to ?the dark side.?
