Scientists Have Discovered An Underground Ocean Near Earth’s Core

I am a fan on Facebook of the science page, “I Fucking Love Science.” That’s where I get most of the stuff I write about here for the science portion from because they are pretty quick with their updates and the news. ?Go check them out!

Anyway, this week, it popped up in my news feed from that awesome page that a huge underground ocean has been found near the Earth’s core. As you know, our planet gets the lovely blue color from the water that is visible. But the coolest part of all of this is that there has been a recent discovery that water is also tied up underneath the Earth’s mantle. The results were published in the magazine “Science.”

The Discovery.

The discovery was made four hundred miles underneath North America through the deep pockets that held magma. Magma is indicative of water.

But there is something different about this water.

It wasn’t in any of the three forms that we have associated it with- solid, liquid, or gas.

What..?

What happened to the water was this-

The pressure paired with the temperatures that are high causes water to split into hydroxyl radical (OH) and then, from there, it goes and pairs up with minerals that are present on a molecular level.

The water is bound up in the rock and it could be indicative of the largest water reservoir on Earth. And, it a natural water reservoir!

This could be evidence of a whole Earth water cycle and explain the vast amount of liquid we have on our planet, according to geophysicist, Steve Jacobsen.

This reservoir has three times the amount of water has Earth’s oceans?. It is hidden in the Earth’s mantle though.

Could Possibly Explain Sea Origins.

For a long time, scientists theorized that water came from a cold comet, from within the Earth, or something else occur?

Now, however, with this discovery, it would seem that the water is coming from within the Earth, rather than from without.

This is truly something out of a science fiction novel- perhaps like?Journey To The Center Of The Earth.?

However, before we get too excited, keep in mind, folks- Further tests are needed because this basin alone was found under North America.

There could be more and there probably is, but they are going to have to do more conclusive evidence to see for certain and we here at Liberal America shall keep you posted!!
