Officer Thomas Sheats, with the Clayton County Police Department, has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after what appears to be an extreme case of road rage and using a racial slur while off duty.

Michele Griffith was driving to pick up pizza when Sheats ?followed her for miles, blowing his horn, driving erratically, and bumping her car.? The incident escalated into a confrontation in the parking lot of the pizza shop when Sheats began shouting at her.

Apparently, Sheats was angry that Griffith had been driving 35 mph in a 45 mph zone. When Griffith told him he could have passed her he is accused of saying this:

?I couldn’t pass, you low life piece of (expletive) (n-word).??

This is when he is accused of also spitting on Griffith.

Witnesses took photographs and wrote Sheats? license number down as he drove away. They also confirm that he used the racial slur. One witness also confirms the accusation he spit on Griffith.

He was later arrested and charged with ?simple battery, simple assault, and disorderly conduct.? Internal Affairs is investigating the incident.

Sheats’ attorney shared with 11 Alive Atlanta that there?is more to the story and Griffith “egged?on the fight” and also used “her own racial slurs at him.

Sheats has also been arrested in the past for domestic violence; however, Sheats stated?those charges were dropped.
