A Majority Of U.S. Women Face Restrictions In Reproduction Rights

< Following the Republican surge in the 2010 elections, women's reproduction?rights have become more and more controlled by government, a recent analysis by the Guttmacher Institute says. As pictured in its chart, state legislatures have passed record numbers of bills restricting rights to abortion.

Today, 57 percent of American adult females live in states that the Institute regards to be ?hostile? or ?extremely?hostile? regarding abortion and reproduction rights.

However, and as recently noted by Yahoo’s Jennifer Gerson Uffalussy on the subject, a majority of Americans support women’s right to choose. According to recent Gallup polling, 53 percent of U.S. adults believe Roe v. Wade should not be overturned, while only 29 percent (a declining figure, too) believe it should.

Challenges to this trend are underway in 2015, however. A recent Texas law requiring expensive modifications to abortion clinics is being challenged in the U.S. Court of Appeals; Tennessee’s recent public vote on an abortion amendment has generated a lawsuit, as well.
