A video from Friday evening captures the scene of a 150-vehicle pile-up that occurred at 10:00 AM on an icy Michigan freeway. The entire freeway was?shut down.
From Mediaite:
Vehicle after vehicle crashed into each other, extending ?hundreds of yards? on the freeway. Several hospitals have been taking care of the injured victims. While some of the vehicles burned, the police asked for people within a one-mile radius of the scene to stay inside if they hadn’t already evacuated.
As if this situation could be any worse, one of the tricks was carrying fireworks. From the?Detroit Free Press and Michigan State Police:
Michigan State Police Lt. Rick Pazder says the accident killed one person ? a trucker from Ottawa, Canada ? and injured an unknown number of people. He says investigators believe around 150 vehicles were involved, mostly in westbound lanes.
Some vehicles were burning in the smashup west of Exit 92, including a truck that carried fireworks. Shortly before noon, those fireworks caught fire, causing an extended display of aerial explosions.
In addition to the one person who was killed, hospitals in the area report 16 patients with one in serious condition. Many people on the scene were tweeting photos.
