Fundie Woman In Tennessee Thinks School Bus Brake Lights Are Satanic

A woman in Cordova, Tennessee–a suburb of Memphis–is pitching a fit over, of all things, the brake lights on a school bus. Specifically, she thinks the brake lights on the back contain a Satanic symbol.

Last week, Robyn Wilkins happened to see a stopped school bus on her street, and noticed the brake lights were shaped in what looked like a pentagram. To Wilkins’ mind, it amounted to a subliminal Satanic or pagan message. Wilkins told WMC-TV in Memphis that “anyone who fears a God, if not God and Jesus Christ, would be outraged” at a pentagram being on a school bus. Watch WMC’s story here.

Wilkins pointed out that Walgreens had to yank some Hanukkah wrapping paper from its shelves because there was a swastika hidden in the pattern. To her mind, this is no different. She wants Shelby County Schools to replace the lights with solid red bulbs. “If you can’t put a cross on there,” she said, “you cannot put a pentagram on it.”

The picture has touched off quite the firestorm on social media in the Memphis area. To my mind, though, it’s a lot of fuss over nothing–a sentiment shared by most of the people in the comments section of WMC’s story. There are so many issues affecting our kids, and we’re worried about brake lights on school buses? Then again, you have to remember that there are people out there who seem to look for demons under every rock.
