When His Baby Girl Couldn’t Calm Herself, Dad Crawled Into The Crib

My daughter was a colicky baby, and she also is a person (and was even then) who needs a lot of physical closeness. She was happy lying on our chests to go to sleep at night. She needed the reassurance of a parental heartbeat, I think.

That said, I followed some bad advice that was pretty standard conventional “wisdom” at the time: letting her “cry it out” in her crib. It didn’t work and we ended up bringing her into our bed most nights. My little boy was totally different. He seldom cried and was perfectly content to just lie for hours in his crib looking around and sleeping.

Because I’ve been there, this video of a dad who totally understands his baby’s needs and does what needs to be done warms my heart. He tries to get her to go to sleep on her own, to no avail. But the minute he crawled into bed with her, it was over. She fell quickly and contentedly asleep. I needed this today. Enjoy the video below.
