Texas Judge Rules Same-Sex Marriage Ban Unconstitutional

VA0A0852

In a very surprising move, a Texas probate judge in Travis County made the ruling today that the state ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.

According to Raw Story, the ruling came about in relation to an estate fight:

“Herman ruled as part of an estate fight in which Austin resident Sonemaly Phrasavath sought to have her eight-year relationship to Stella Powell deemed to have been a common-law marriage. Powell died last summer of colon cancer.”

The effect and impact the ruling may have is still yet to be determined. For now, the county will not be issuing marriage certificates although it certainly seems as if they will be heading that way soon.
