High flying Jameis Winston might be staying in the Sunshine State for just a little bit longer. Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith put in his claim for the?2013 Heisman Trophy winner.

In his interview today Smith said:

“I’m comfortable making Winston face of [the] Buccaneers”

As most of us now Smith’s dreadful Buccaneers have the first pick in the draft and the first offer on the table. However, Smith is confident that?Winston past is behind him when he said:

“As far as how we look at it, if a player has been accused of something, and again, they’ve been exonerated of it, you have to go with it. That’s what our justice system is all about. That’s how we’ll go forward.”

Whatever the case may be with?Winston and his off-field issues, which include sexual assault allegations, a gun complaint, shoplifting, and vulgar comments,?there is no doubt that he is an unusual talent. But?Winston won’t be the first highly touted player in recent years to come into the league with some skeletons in his closet.

But even if?Smith takes the embattled quarterback the chances of his success or quite slim under the Smith system. for the answers to that we can look at Smith’s QB draft history.

Nathan Enderle (2011) Round 5 Pick 160

Besides the fact that all but Kyle Orton didn’t pan out for Smith, this will be the first time that Smith will take a QB in the first round. However, this won’t be the first time that Smith will have sunk big money into a quarterback like he did with Jay Cutler. And we all know how Cutler worked out for Chicago and Smith.

In the end?Winston might be a bust or he might not be. But I don’t think Tampa Bay is the right place for him considering the fact that his supporting cast will be limited to an aging Vincent Jackson, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and Mike Evans. However, for now I think we can?only count on one thing from Jameis Winston, and that’s crab legs.
