Lawrence Phillips was just added to the shortlist of NFL players to commit murder. While their is some skepticism about the nature of the crime, Phillips’ cellmate was found lifeless in a Central California Prison.

Phillips is currently serving a 31 year sentence for twice choking his girlfriend and then driving a pickup truck into three teens in 2005 after a pick-up football game in Los Angeles.

Phillips is suspected of killing 37 year old inmate Damion Soward, who had been serving 82 years to life for first degree murder.

Phillips, 39, had been one of the most highly touted prospects to come out of Nebraska.?He was?selected sixth overall in the 1996 draft by the St. Louis Rams. His college success never transferred over to the NFL and his rookie season only amounted to 632 yards and 4 touchdowns.

In addition, a string of recurring character issues led to Phillip’s demise and final NFL game in 1999 with the San Francisco 49ers.

Phillips is just another brick in the wall for the NFL as the murder list gets longer.
