WATCH As A Neglected Circus Lion Feels The Ground Beneath His Paws For The First Time

For 13 long years, Will the Lion worked as a circus animal. He was kept caged, unable to roam free or even feel the Earth beneath his feet. Imagine it: The King of the Jungle confined to a cage, doing tricks for humans, neglected, not knowing what it meant to be a real lion.

But a wilderness sanctuary in Brazil rescued Will from his days of drudgery and imprisonment, and the video of him feeling the grass and soil beneath his paws for the first time will very possibly make you cry. It certainly did me.

This video was taken when Will was still alive. He passed away in 2011, but at least he did so knowing what it was like to truly be the lion he was intended to be. As?Marcos Pompeo, founder of the sanctuary said so eloquently:

“He had five years of tranquility before he died. Here he had the opportunity to interact with other lions. He loved to lie in grass and look at the sky. He was a very happy lion.”
