School Chorus Serenades Teacher Diagnosed With Cancer

These stories really hit home for me, turning me into an emotional puddle on the floor. On December 22, 2010, I was 12 weeks pregnant, and my 24 year old husband was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, a blood cancer. He underwent a stem cell transplant and has been in remission ever since, but these stories really grab my heart. I think this video will grab at yours, too.

Cancer is something that most people can relate to. Be they survivors, friends, or family members, most people in this world have been touched by cancer at some point. About 1 in 8 women in the US, or 12%, will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. The overall cancer rates are even more shocking, though, and approximately 39.6% of men and women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer at some point in their lifetimes.

Adriana Lopez, an elementary school teacher at PS22 in Staten Island, NY, had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and her students wanted to show her some love. At their last practice, the school chorus surprised Lopez with a moving rendition of Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”

I dare you to try to get through this video with dry eyes.
