In 2011 the Huffington Post reported that 12.7-million people discover they have cancer each year. Also, an additional 7.6-million people die from cancer each year. Unfortunately, the numbers increase each year, and these numbers represent real individuals. Thankfully though, new research indicates that marijuana actually kills many forms of cancer cells.
According to cancer.org, cannabinoids actually have anti-tumor effects on many forms of cancer. In one form of laboratory testing, they note that:
“One study in mice and rats suggested that cannabinoids may have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors. Decreased incidences of benign tumors (polyps and adenomas) in other organs (mammary gland, uterus, pituitary, testis, and pancreas) were also noted in the rats.”
They also noted that:
“Cannabinoids may cause anti-tumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis.”
In human testing, 84,170 people participated in the California Men’s Health Study that investigated the association between cannabis use and the incidence of bladder cancer. Cancer.gov reported that:
“During 16 years of follow-up, 89 Cannabis users (0.3%) developed bladder cancer compared with 190 (0.4%) of the men who did not report Cannabis use (P > .001). After adjusting for age, race, ethnicity, and body mass index, Cannabis use was associated with a 45% reduction in bladder cancer incidence.”
Also, as noted in a report by occupydemocrats.com, the U.S. Department of Health attributes pot use to:
“reducing anti-inflammatory activity, blocking cancerous cell growth, relieving muscle spasms in multiple sclerosis sufferers, as an effective anti-viral agent, an anti-bacterial, and preventing the growth of blood vessels that supply tumors.”
The evidence for the use of marijuana as a very beneficial medicine is growing. With most conservatives basically against anything marijuana related and offering little or no actual evidence as to why they oppose marijuana, it seems science is closing in. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to stand in the way of their denial regarding climate change.
Also, pharmaceutical companies are sure to fight against any scientific evidence for marijuana in the fight against cancer. Especially since their profits from cancer medications are very lucrative. Let’s hope common sense and science prevails in the war against this awful disease. When it comes to cancer, we should all stand together to fight it in any way possible.
