With Republicans leading the fight to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood for a year in order to ‘investigate’ the donation of fetal tissue to aid stem cell research, it’s important to realize not only the ignorance Republicans seem to have about stem cell research, but also the many benefits Planned Parenthood provides that we would lose. Stem cell research is extremely important in the progress to cure many diseases, including cancer, and has already led to the development of the polio vaccine. Planned Parenthood also doesn’t sell or make a profit from the donation of fetal tissue and has not broken a single law, despite what Republican lawmakers may want you to believe. The purposes and benefits of fetal tissue donations have been greatly misrepresented through the media.
The proposed cut of funding to Planned Parenthood is just another attempt to limit women’s choices and options. No federal funding is spent on providing abortions, only medical care and assistance to both men and women.
