A rape kit evidence bag from the woman who accused Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane of sexual assault was placed on her mothers doorstep Tuesday morning. But when the mother found the bag at around 1:30 pm in the afternoon it had been ripped open.
Thomas Eoannou, the victims lawyer then took the bag to the hospital and confirmed that it was in fact his clients.

But this is where things get a little bit weird. According to thinkprogress writer Linndsay Gibbs
“Rumors of DNA evidence in the case have been leaked to the media throughout the investigation, including reports that Kane’s DNA was found in the victim’s fingernails and shoulders, but not in her [privates]; and reports earlier this week that [the fluid] found on the victim belonged to two other men. “
Writer Lindsay Gibbs also said
“Rape kits are supposed to remain in Chain of Custody throughout a rape investigation in order to preserve the DNA evidence. It has been reported that Kane’s accuser went to the hospital for an examination and rape kit immediately after the attack occurred. Rape kits are invasive, often painful exams that can last for hours, and are usually performed before the victim even showers after an assault. There is currently a huge backlog of untested rape kits in the United States.”
Apparently they have become more common. The real question is how the kit was tampered with and by whom, especially since Kane has the most to lose from it, at least his lawyer thinks it will now be harder to prove his innocence. Lastly, Kane is still yet to be charged it has been alleged that he overpowered and raped a women at his home in New York.
Kane has said
“I am confident that once all the facts are brought to light, I will be absolved.”
Proving this case will continue to get more and more dicey especially since evidence was tampered with.
We can only hope that the truth comes out. Either way it doesn’t look good for Patrick Kane with loss of the evidence bag.
