Some days I come across a story that literally makes me physically ill, and this is one of those days and one of those stories.
A video has surfaced of a McDonald’s employee in Detroit luring a homeless man to the drive-thru window and then, when the man approaches, throwing a cup of water on him.
The video,which appeared on YouTube last week, was apparently filmed by a customer, and it shows the employee calling to a homeless man:
“Hey Willie, you want a sandwich? Come on, I’m about to give you a sandwich, man.”
Initially, the homeless man declines, but then the employee shows the burger to the man and adds:
“Come on man, come on man. Yeah, I’m about to help you.”
In the video, the McDonald’s employee can be seen sliding a cup of water to the edge of the drive-thru window. As “Willie” reaches for the sandwich, the employee throws a cup of water in his face. Another person can be heard laughing as if it’s the funniest thing in the world.
In my book, this is beyond cruel. It is just plain evil.
And now social media has put the Internet on notice and is seeking to determine the name of this lowlife POS who would treat a fellow human being so cruelly. One person posted this message:
“Alright, internet, do your thing…find this asshole and get him fired.”

McDonald’s has not yet commented on the video, which is quickly going viral.
If you’ll allow me a moment, I’d like to say something: Those of us who have jobs, family, food, and a place to call home are blessed. We should never ever forget that. As the old saying goes, “There but for the grace of God go I.” I have personally known middle-class families who, through a series of circumstances beyond their control, suddenly became homeless and had to live under bridges.
None of us are immune to the terrible things that befall others, no matter how much we may believe ourselves to be. Let’s all dedicate our lives to helping those in need, not ignoring or humiliating them. It’s the least we can do.
