Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers wasn’t amused when he spoke with reporters after Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. Apparently in a pre-game moment of silence for victims of the Paris terrorist attacks, a rabid fan shouted “death to Muslims” and “Muslims suck.” Rodgers refused to repeat the comments, but other fans provided audio of the incident, which also included shouts of “go Packs go.”
At the post-game conference, the former NFL and SuperBowl MVP said that it’s important to have ceremonies like moments of silence because it reminds us all that we live in “a connected world.”
He continued:
I was very disappointed with whoever the fan was who made a comment that I thought was really inappropriate during the moment of silence. It’s that kind of prejudicial ideology that I think puts us in the position that we’re in today as a world.”
Rodgers stated correctly that:
“It’s that kind of prejudicial ideology that puts us in the position that we’re in today as a world.”
You can hear the audio at Deadspin, and yeah, it’s pretty troubling. Watch Rodgers’ statements below.
Twitter users were equally appalled.
Stay classy Lambeau field….it was a moment of silence not a moment of "let's scream out profanities" you should be ashamed.

He may have not won the game, but Rodgers certainly made a great comment on a fan yelling "Muslims suck". #Packers https://t.co/DvHSsr6Yfe

Shouting go pack go during the moment of silence for Paris is in awful taste. But it's Green Bay..

Apparently "a moment of silence" in Green Bay means drunken incoherent screams from the fans.

Packer's fans can be quiet when Green Bay has the ball, not when asked to give a moment of silence for the victims in Paris. #disrespectful

That pretty well sums it up.
