Well, it’s finally happened. People everywhere can let out a collective sigh of relief. Ethan Couch and his mother have been apprehended by authorities.

The two were found about 950 miles from home, in the Mexican resort town of Puerto Vallarta. Couch is expected to be turned over to U.S. Marshals.

A warrant for Couch was issued in mid-December for an alleged probation violation.

Ethan Couch initially came into the spotlight in 2013 when he killed four people and severely injured others during a drunken joyride in Burleson, Texas. At his trial, a psychologist, who testified for the defense, claimed Couch suffered from “affluenza,” meaning he could not be held to account for his actions because his family’s wealth and lack of parenting impeded his ability to differentiate between right and wrong. While he was looking at prison time, Judge Jean Boyd sentenced him to ten years of probation and treatment.

As part of the terms of his probation, Ethan Couch was not to drink alcohol.

A video surfaced a couple of months ago that seemed to show Couch at a house party where beer pong was being played. His probation officer attempted to contact him, but was unable to do so. The failure to contact directly led to the warrant being issued.

District Attorney Sharen Wilson stated that while it “certainly looks like” Ethan Couch in the video, without further investigation it cannot be proven it was him. She also stated that leaving the country and falling out of contact with his probation officer are definitely probation violations.

Couch’s lawyers have said they are aware authorities have been investigating whether Couch violated his probation, but have refused to comment on whether it is Couch in the house party video.

Ethan Couch may be looking at a ten year prison sentence for violating the terms of his probation.

So is it possible this little bastard just impulsively decided to party it up in Mexico? Perhaps. However, do you really think he would do this to himself if he weren’t hiding from authorities?
