When a past American “President” becomes a peeping Tom, there’s cause for worry. It becomes even worse when the “President” does the peeping in his birthday suit. This was the case in Vestavia Hills on New Year’s Eve when a nude man sporting a Ronald Reagan rubber mask crept into the breezeway of Danielle Yancey’s apartments.
Bart, Danielle’s husband, had spotted the intruder who had a Presidential mask on his face and what appeared to be a sock to cover his private parts, and had placed a call to the Vestavia Hills Police. On arrival, the police found no trace of the intruder except for video evidence showing that he indeed was at the scene.
Different theories that range from the action of the intruder being a dare, a lost bet, or teenage New Year’s Eve party gone out of control has been postulated on the intruder’s mission at the Yanceys.
Danielle says:
“He could have been messed up on drugs or alcohol, and in that mindset you don’t know what he would do to someone else,”
“I don’t think he had a gun on him, but he could have potentially hurt us or we could have hurt him,” she said. “Even if it was a prank, it could have become very scary and dangerous quickly.”
Considering the weather, the police believe the intruder can’t last long outside in his birthday suit.
Later that day at 11pm, Vestavia Police received another call about another teenager passing through the neighborhood in the direction of Vestavia Hill Baptist, where kids supposedly hang out. They couldn’t locate him when they got to the scene though and this added another dimension to the whole mystery: is the nude guy the same as the teenager streaking through the neighborhood?
As far as Yancey was concerned, she wants the neighborhood to be aware and hopes the intruder is safe if he didn’t mean any harm.
She caps it nicely:
“I hope he never does it again because he could have been unlucky,” she said. “Maybe we spooked him off enough not go to another house and not do it again.”
