DEAD HEAT: Latest Polls Show Sanders Tied With Clinton In Nevada

For Hillary Clinton, the 2016 campaign must be starting to seem like a horrible rerun of what happened in 2008 when she lost the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama.

And the news remains grim for the Clinton camp as the latest polls out of Nevada show that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has pulled even as the caucus approaches in two days.

A CNN/ORC survey released Wednesday shows that 48% of likely caucus-goers are support Clinton, while 47%  say they will back Sanders. A quarter of the Democratic electorate polled says that they’re still trying to decide between the two candidates, while 75% of voters have decided or are heavily leaning to a candidate.

Nationally, Clinton still holds a commanding lead over Sanders by a margin of 49 percent to 35.3. However, polling experts have said that margin may also be closing as the race advances to the Southern primaries in March, where the former Secretary of State is expected to do well.

Though it is still too early to predict who will be the Democratic nominee, all signs seem to be pointing to Sanders as having the momentum.

One segment of Democratic voters may hold the key for a comeback by Clinton: African-Americans. The so-called “SEC primaries” which will be held in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia on March 1, may provide the Clinton team with a margin of victory they need as she seeks to secure the nomination.

But Sanders has made some inroads with black voters and has been actively courting their support in recent weeks, meeting with black community leaders and addressing the issue of racial inequity and injustice in the United States.

Next up, however, is Nevada, and it appears to be as close as can be.
