While a lot of us enjoy the Oscars – myself included, I’ve never missed one – the pretentiousness of the attendees and the forced dramatic and breathless descriptions of the nominated films is sometimes eyeroll-inducing.
On that note, check out “Honest Trailers,” a video from Screen Junkies that pokes fun at all of those things and more. “The Revenant?” It’s just the new “Frozen.” “The Big Short?” Great film for anyone who has a large and comprehensive understanding of finance and the national economy, but how many of us can really say that? And that was brought to us by the same guy who made “Talladega Nights” and “Stepbrothers?” Really?!
The video also reminds us how depressing so many of the Oscar-nominated movies are. Not because of their subject matter, although that’s pretty depressing, too, but because there are NO PEOPLE OF COLOR in any of them. That’s pretty damn sad, don’t you think?
