Three men who are allegedly members of a white supremacist group attacked a group of Hispanic teens at a public park on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Police reports say the three attackers screamed “Heil Hitler” and other racial slurs as they attacked the youths with knives and waved the image of a Confederate flag at the frightened teenagers.
The father of one of the teens who was attacked recalled:
“They just started beating them up. They started coming towards us, and they pulled out some knives, and they were saying they would kill us.”
Police said the attackers fled the park, but they were captured shortly afterwards. No one was seriously injured.
This incident comes just 24 hours after a Ku Klux Klan (KKK) rally in Anaheim was the scene of violence. Three people who were protesting against the KKK were stabbed.
Oddly, the five KKK members who were taken into custody in Anaheim were released Monday because authorities maintained that they were simply acting in self-defense.
Hate groups in America are making a big comeback in the past few months, no doubt because the leading contender for the 2016 GOP nomination has repeatedly said racist and xenophobic things about those he sees as a threat to the United States. Donald Trump has given full-throated voice to hatred against Hispanics, Muslims, and anyone else who dares to disagree with him. His campaign rallies often have the feel of Nuremberg, Germany in the 1930s.
As a result of Trump, the worst elements in our society–those who hate for the sake of hating–are now emboldened, and they, along with their modern-day Fuhrer, must be decisively defeated at every turn.
