This Train Track Optical Illusion Has The Internet Abuzz (Video)

Sometimes we see things that we believe are true, but our eyes are playing games on us. You may call these optical illusions or slights of hand, but whatever you call them, they seem to endlessly fascinate us.

The latest of these illusions comes to us via Marc Settle, who lives in London and works at the BBC Academy. Take a look at these two pieces of track from a toy train set:

Clearly, the one on the bottom is longer than the one on top. But would you bet your life on that? Would you make any bet at all that one is longer than the other? If you did, you’d lose that wager.

Now the internet is afire with people discussion this neat bit of mind-bending, which some have correctly identifed as an example of the Jastrow Illusion, first discovered in 1889 by psychologist Joseph Jastrow.

The Jastrow Illusion states: When identical curved objects are placed next to one another, with the longer side of an object juxtaposing the shorter side of the other identical object, this illusion is created.
