In another case of hatred coming from the right, a trans woman has reported getting hateful messages from a college republican group. In response to being told that forcing a trans woman into a men’s restroom could result in violence, the UNC College Republicans replied:
“You are a mentally-ill man, no amount of surgery or hormones will change that. Second, if a tranny like you goes into the women’s restroom, then what about the rights of them? If you value your life, you shouldn’t have made this sick choice and settled with the gender God gave you.”
I find it interesting that they’re so concerned with the rights of woman in regard to bathrooms, but not our right to control our bodies. Fun. Also, being transgender isn’t a mental illness. It’s a matter of identity.
They continue by stating that tolerating transgender is the same as tolerating pedophiles.
“Playing into your delusions would make us no better than someone who tolerates pedophiles. You will never be a woman, and so you should stick with the men’s room, as that is what you are; a mentally-ill man. you are sick and disgusting for mutilating your own God-given body, so a tranny like you will find no pity with us.”
Next come the threats of violence. Because what’s the best way to solve an issue? Violence, of course.
“If you ever dare to set foot into the women’s room I will make sure to give you a lesson not to harass our women, you freak of nature. We will make sure that you trannies do not molest our daughters and sisters.”
Perhaps if they are so concerned with the molestation of children, they should do something about the high rate of sexual abuse in the Christian church.
The UNC College Republicans have denied this whole situation.
“We at UNC College Republicans are shocked and disgusted by this false and slanderous attack. We never condone the type of vicious and discriminatory language we have been accused of using. Our organization has a diversity of views on House Bill 2, and has taken no official position on the issue. The screenshots featured in the article are patently false and fabricated, This type of rhetoric is offensive and divisive and does not reflect the values of UNC College Republicans or our membership, which includes LGBTQA+ students. This attack is an attempt to shame, defame and silence our organization.”
There is a thread on Reddit about it, and a college paper has done an “investigation.” Although, to me, just asking if the statements are true doesn’t really equal an investigation.
Whether these messages are real or not, the fact that it is so easily believed to be true is very telling. There is so much hate and discrimination in the state that statements like this aren’t really surprising. It’s gotten to a point where there are mass boycotts by major businesses. A porn site has blocked the state. Ringo Starr has joined the boycott, as has Bruce Springsteen, and Cirque du Soliel. Joel McHale did perform, but used his performance to point out how stupid HB2 is. There have even been lawsuits.
Seriously, this whole thing is bullsh*t. It’s bullsh*t to use religion as a tool of discrimination. It’s bullsh*t to spew hate in the name of God. It’s bullsh*t to blame transgender women for the crimes of heterosexual men. If people are so damned concerned about the safety of women, and protecting them from rape, maybe they should do something productive. Maybe instead of practicing widespread discrimination they should do something simple, like teaching men not to rape.
