WATCH: Tearful Moms Defend Trans Kids Against Bullying

RawStory shared an emotional and beautiful video just in time for Mother’s Day.  The video was made by the Trans United Fund in an effort to show the love between trans children and their mothers. It talks about the hurtful consequences of the many anti-trans laws that are springing up across the country.

The video is called “Meet My Child.” It focuses on three families with transgender children. The mothers talk about their feelings and reactions when learning that their children felt that they had been born into the wrong gendered body. They reminisce about how they came to accept their children just the way they are.

More than 20 states are now in the process of passing laws that discriminate against trans people by trying to control where they go to the bathroom, among other things. In one scene in the video, a mother and her trans son are watching a clip of Ted Cruz talking about the rights of women to “use a public restroom in peace, without having to fear that there’s a man in there.”  The mom turns to look at her handsome adolescent son and says:

“He wants you to go into a girl’s bathroom.”

After a brief silence, the completely male-appearing teen sighs and answers, “Yup.”

You can feel his unease as he stares at the screen.

The video is wrenching at times, as the mothers express their fears for the safety of their children. They talk about the assaults, the murders of transpeople, the many attempted and completed suicides by trans people. They address those who are bullying their kids:

“Come and meet us.”

“There is no need of this fear.”

Watch the video. Learn about these loving, courageous women and their beautiful children. But keep a box of tissues close at hand while you do.
