Pigs Are Flying – Mitch McConnell Says GOP At ‘All-Time High’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) seems to be living in a happy dream world where the Republican party is united and at an “all-time high,” according to an interview with NPR.

Even the most optimistic of Republicans might disagree at least slightly.

Donald Trump has not exactly been a party unifier, right from the beginning of his campaign. His vitriolic language and offensive views on pretty much everything started an “Anyone But Trump” movement that has a strong online presence and even has bumper stickers.

Mitch McConnell has called for the party to unite behind Trump when it became clear that he would become the nominee, but other party leaders have been reluctant to do so. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has just recently added his name to Trump’s list of party supporters. After a well-publicized powwow aimed at getting Ryan to throw his support behind Trump, it appears to have finally worked.

And yet McConnell thinks everything is just hunky dory. As they say, hope springs eternal.

Holding fast to his ridiculous Supreme Court blockade, McConnell said that:

“The single most important thing I would remind right-of-center voters in suggesting that they vote for Donald Trump is: Who do you want to make the next Supreme Court appointment?”

Really, Mitch? Of the many responsibilities and powers that the Constitution gives to the President of the United States, that is the most important issue? Maybe that is the only issue you actually agree with him on.

Other interview highlights include the Majority Leader disagreeing with Donald Trump on Muslims and trying to consolidate his extreme views on immigration.

But everything is okay, don’t worry:

“I think the Republican Party is at an all-time high. We don’t have the White House, but we’ve had very good years. The American people gave us a new majority in 2014. I don’t in any way think the American people rejected the Republican Party, or we’d be in a lot worse shape than we are. I think in this particular election, however, Republican primary voters are looking for an outsider.

Keep the faith, Mitch.
