Donald Trump held one of his infamous rallies in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania this past Monday. Of course there were anti-Trump protesters and, as with any Trump rally, this led to a confrontation between them and the Donald Trump supporters.
The event was held in Cumberland Valley High School, and outside the venue was where the protesters and Trump supporters clashed. Initially, the anti-hate protesters were being peaceful, telling the Trump supporters to “enjoy the event.” The protesters also held signs with “free hugs” written on it. Despite being totally against what Trump and his supporters stood for, they overlooked it and promoted a message of love and peace. Lindsey Knause, one of the anti-hate protesters, stated:
“Our message is that we want everyone to love each other,” and “We don’t want to spread hate like he is doing.”
This peacefulness didn’t last long, however, due to the Trump supporters. The conflict began when one Trump supporter began shouting at the 75 protesters.
Elena Mann, a protester, started recording the incident which caused the angry Trump supporter to attack her. According to PennLive, Mann stated:
“I was just trying to document some of the insults being vocalized by Trump supporters as they walked past the protesters,” and “I was not touching anyone, the woman abruptly tried to grab my camera out of my hand.”
A local cameraman had to step in and separate the two.
The problem quickly escalated when thousands of Trump supporters were turned away from the event due to capacity. The anti-Trump supporters, who were originally promoting a message of peace and love, started yelling “You’re racists!” which was met with shouts of “Get a job!” and “Stop living off the government.”
The local police stepped in and separated the protestors and Trump supporters, with their batons in case the conflict became more physical.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the screaming match.
