GOP Members Pen SCATHING Indictment Of Donald Trump (VIDEO)

As Donald Trump’s campaign descends ever further into madness, reasonable Republicans – or, at the very least, Republicans who want to continue to have a career in politics – are taking steps to distance themselves from their incendiary candidate.

Open Letter From Former GOP Lawmakers And Staffers Blasts Trump

Time magazine received a draft of an open letter to the RNC, which they posted on Scribd. The letter implores the RNC to divert funds from Trump’s seemingly doomed campaign in the hopes that the GOP can still win down ballot races and hold their majorities in the House and Senate. In it, they state,

“We believe that Donald Trump’s divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck.”

Their main concern is not the damage Trump would do to the country if he was elected.  Rather, it is the fact that their own political clout is in danger.

A List Of Trump’s Failings

The letter goes on to mention many of the reasons Trump is losing more and more support by the day. The list of grievances is as follows:

  • Attacking Gold Star families of soldiers who died serving their country
  • Urging a hostile foreign government to intervene in a U.S. election
  • Suggesting that gun owners take action against his opponent if she is elected
  • Repudiating our NATO treaty obligations to protect our allies
  • Reportedly expressing interest in the preemptive use of nuclear weapons
  • Exposing his total ignorance of basic foreign policy matters
  • Stating his admiration for violent foreign autocrats
  • Refusing to disclose any of his past taxes, including those not under audit, and
  • Deliberately and repeatedly lying about scores of issues, large and small

Remember that this letter is coming from Republicans. They state that,

“The signatories to this letter have worked with Republican candidates and elected officials at nearly every level. We have served as former members of Congress and staffers at the RNC, in every Republican administration since President Reagan, on the last seven GOP presidential campaigns, in leadership and personal offices in both the House and Senate, as grassroots workers at the state and local level, and as delegates to GOP conventions.”

Though a full list of signatories is not available at the time of this writing, Anna Palmer of Politico lists many of them here.

Like Rats On A Sinking Ship

These Republicans see what is in store for the party. Trump is such a polarizing figure that it’s very likely that this election will see a large turnout of people who are simply there to vote against him. It makes sense that they want to see more money focused on the races they might actually be able to win. But it might be a matter of too little, too late. Trump is the face of the Republican party now.
