Here’s a question we all hope we never have to answer: You’re going to die very soon–within hours–but you can have one final meal. What would it be? For me, I think I’d choose chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, and homemade biscuits with a glass of milk to wash it all down.

Over the years, incarcerated death row inmates have requested some strange things as their last meals. Here’s a few of the stranger ones:

Ted Bundy

a

Bundy, convicted of 35 counts of murder, didn’t request a last meal, so he was served steak, eggs, hash browns, toast, milk, and juice. He refused to eat the meal.

Victor Feguer

b

Feguer was hanged in 1963 for kidnapping and murder. He was the last person executed in Iowa. For his last meal, he requested a single olive with the pit still in it, with the hopes that it would grow into an olive tree from inside his body.

Ricky Ray Rector

c

Executed in 1992, Rector requested steak, fried chicken, cherry Kool-Aid and pecan pie. He left the pecan pie on the side of the tray, telling the guards who came to take him to the execution chamber that he was saving it “for later.”

Velma Barfield

d

Barfield had been convicted for the murders of at least six people. She refused a last meal and had a bag of Cheez Doodles and a Coke instead.

Dobie Gillis Williams

e

Executed by the state of Louisiana in 1999, Williams had a final meal of 12 candy bars and some ice cream as his last meal. His final words were:

“I just want to say, I don’t have any hard feelings against anybody. God bless y’all. God bless.”
