Parents in a suburban town in Australia received flyers warning them about the Safe Schools Coalition’s linkage to same-sex marriage.
The Safe Schools Coalition is a public-private partnership, and it’s mission is to put an end to LGBTQ bullying and to make schools safer for these students.
The flyers were circulated by Children’s Future, a group aimed at ‘representing’ the ‘voiceless’ children whose:
“…Future is diminished by poor public policy decisions.”
Out of fear of “unsafe” schools, Children’s Future is pushing back on the plebiscite proposed to Australia’s parliament to allow same-sex marriage, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
The irony portrayed in the absurd flyers is the face of Nelson Mandela.
Mandela is known for ending apartheid, or racial segregation in South Africa. His picture accompanies the same quote found on the group’s website:
“Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future.”
My first thought was, is this some kind of idiotic indication that same-sex couples can’t bear children and therefore can’t contribute to the human race? Hey, Children’s Future! Have you ever heard of adoption or In-Vitro Fertilization? But I was thinking too much into it.
It’s actually just another one of those ‘gay’ scare tactics.
The flyer accuses Safe Schools of radicalism and altering children’s minds to change genders.
Fi Stevenson told BuzzFeed News the flyers are “incredibly offensive,” after her and her same-sex partner received a copy in their mailbox. She said:
“If we put something like that in the letterbox about Muslims, we’d be absolutely slammed. I’m just flabbergasted.”
When the Nelson Mandela Foundation got wind of the flyers, they immediately issued a statement denouncing both the flyers and the Children’s Future’s anti-LGBT message completely in the hopes of correcting the record.
Dated September 23, the statement reads:
“As South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela signed into law a constitution that stood for the rights of all … Same-sex marriage has been legal in South Africa since the Civil Union Act came into force on 30 November 2006 … We object to the misuse of the legacy of someone who worked precisely for the recognition of such rights.”
Rest assured everyone, Children’s Future says they:
“…Believe in treating same-sex attracted people with respect and love.”
Shaking my damn head.
