A few days ago, Donald Trump declared that life for African-Americans is worse than it has ever been. He even repeated the word “ever” three times to make his point. As with most things Trump says, it was pure and unadulterated bullshit, stacked high and garnished with his signature knack for hyperbole.
Earlier today on Good Morning America, President Obama was asked about Trump’s comments by GMA host Robin Roberts, and the President wasted no time cutting the Orange Menace down to size when he said:
“Even most 8 year olds would tell you that whole slavery thing wasn’t very good for black people. Jim Crow wasn’t good for black people. What we have to do is use our history to propel us to make more progress in the future.”
The President also commented on the recent protests in Charlotte, North Carolina, after the shooting death of a Keith Lamont Scott by a police officer. President Obama said he fully understands the frustrations of many black Americans and Charlotte residents, protests should be peaceful and orderly:
“Looting, breaking glass, those things are not going to advance the cause.”
But it’s what the President said about Trump’s ignorant remarks that should be the focus of our attention. Trump thinks he can go to an African-American church and pretend he cares about the issues that matter to them. And yet a few weeks later he suggests the introduction of stop and frisk as a way to combat crime. In other words, he wants to pretend he cares, but then he calls for a policy which is aimed at profiling people of color.
Donald Trump does not care about anyone but himself. Everyone else is secondary to his own lust for power. He is a danger to everything this country and our Constitution stand for. He must be defeated–overwhelmingly–in November.
