Back in 2011, one of the contestants on The Celebrity Apprentice was washed-up singer Mark McGrath. He didn’t win the competition, but apparently he did make an impression on Donald Trump, Jr., who sent out this tweet:
In recent weeks, when all of the allegations came out about Donald Trump groping women and admitting on Access Hollywood that he took pleasure in kissing and grabbing women’s genitals, Don Jr. deleted the tweet, but one look at it gives us some valuable insight into the men in Trump’s family: They are all clearly sexist pigs who think women serve no other purpose than as sex objects.
Clearly, what Trump Jr. is suggesting is that if you’re handsome like Mark McGrath, you can get away with anything, even sexual harassment. However, if you look like Donald Trump, Jr. you might not. That’s really funny, isn’t it? Uh, no, not so much. Matter of fact, not at all.
Yesterday in New Hampshire, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke the truth and gave us the antidote to the poisonous mindset which exists in Donald Trump and men like him: It is never ok to sexually harass, assault, or demean a woman. Never ever ever! Mrs. Obama, clearly speaking directly to the GOP nominee, declared:
“The fact is that in this election, we have a candidate for president of the United States who, over the course of his lifetime and the course of this campaign has said things about women that are so shocking, so demeaning, I simply will not repeat anything here today. Last week we saw this candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women. And I can’t believe that I’m saying that. A candidate for president of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women and I have to tell you that I can’t stop thinking about this.
“I have to tell you that I listened to all this. And I feel it so personally. And I’m sure that many of you do too. Particularly the women. The shameful comments about our bodies. The disrespect of our ambitions and intellect. The belief that you can do anything you want to a woman. It is cruel. It is frightening. And the truth is, it hurts. It hurts.”
Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Eric Trump, those of us out here who have mothers and daughters have a very unambiguous message for you: You are perverts, plain and simple. And those of us who love the women in our lives will not tolerate your kind of gross disrespect for any woman or for any reason. We will fight you with our voices and our words. And we will win.
