With Defeat All But Certain, Trump Now Laying The Groundwork For Trump TV

While it’s certainly true to say Donald Trump is an egotistical bully who thinks he excels at every endeavor, it’s becoming clearer with each day that he is destined to lose the election and lose badly. The latest polling data suggests Trump will lose by anywhere from 7-11 points and get swamped in the Electoral College tally by at least 120 electoral votes.

Soon after the election is over with, according to a report from the Financial Times, Trump will start up his own cable news channel. His son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is already working to get the fledgling network up and running.

So far, Kushner has already begun to arrange financing by contacting Aryeh Bourkoff, founder and chief executive of LionTree, a boutique investment firm, within the past couple of months. LionTree, the Financial Times notes, is well-known as an advisory firm to cable television and other media deals.

But even if Trump is able to get financing for a new network (think Fox News mixed with Breitbart and a big dose of conspiracy theory), cable companies may not be eager to add another news station to their programming at a time when viewers are increasingly watching shows online.

Trump might also choose to make his news channel an online entity, but such a venture would face heavy competition from other conservative news sites. Also, it wouldn’t make nearly the same splash as a channel aimed at television viewers.

Perhaps this was Trump’s plan all along. Maybe he knew there was no way in hell he would ever win the election, but a candidacy would give him a platform for a new business opportunity. Given his failure in other areas when he has attempted to branch out–i.e. Trump steaks, Trump vodka–there is little to suggest he would be successful in the highly competitive world of news and information.
