In a move that again totally goes against democracy, some Trump supporters have come up with another crazy plot for November 8, Election Day. On top of Trump’s desperate face-saving idea that the election is rigged and his dangerous calls to his own supporters to monitor for election fraud, his supporters have now come up with a ludicrous idea to wear red to the polls.
The video below features a supporter that says to take note of how many red shirts you see to make sure
“nothing fishy is going on.”
Could Trump supporters have come up with a less scientific approach if they tried?
There is a reason voting is done in secret and it is precisely for the reason that people should not feel intimidated to vote one way or the other. It is crazy to tell Trump supporters to wear red to show publicly how they are voting for a number of reasons:
It is undemocratic . If you choose to tell people who you vote for, that is your business, however as part of a liberal and democratic society, you are allowed to keep that business to yourself. By telling people to wear red to show loyalty to Trump, the secrecy of voters’ political opinions and democratic voting has been denied.
It will probably provoke fights. Imagine being in a minority at a polling booth, because you are not wearing red. Just picture the kind of bullying people could receive for not wearing red.
There is not a more divisive thing that you could do than to make voters identify themselves in public. It is ridiculous to suggest that noting the number of people wearing red is a sensible way to work out whether the election is rigged.
Naturally, there is no way to tell how many of those not wearing red were voting for someone other than Trump. Suppose they simply decided to wear their regular uniform on the way to work?
This is Trump logic and it is nonsense.
It is entirely inaccurate. Imagine all the Democrat and independent voters who may not know about this crazy plan and want to wear red to the polling booth, simply because it is their favorite shirt.
Also, you may live in a pro-Trump area and so of course you might then wear red out of peer pressure, but that does not mean it is who you have actually voted for on the ballot.
The beauty of a secret vote is that it is secret. There are exit polls designed to monitor how people voted and this still protects anonymity.
It seems the excuses for Trump losing this election are already coming out. Instead of reflecting and looking inward at some very questionable policies and character flaws, Trump and his supporters only want to point fingers outwardly.
