Trump: The Key To My Victory Was Social Media–‘A Method Of Fighting Back’

Our new President-elect is a Twitter junkie. As he has proven on countless occasions, Donald Trump simply cannot resist going on social media and letting loose with insults, whining, or aimless observations about something he has seen or heard. And now Trump says he’s convinced his use of social media is one of the main factors in his victory.

In an interview he gave to 60 Minutes which will air Sunday evening, Trump told Lesley Stahl:

“When you give me a bad story or when you give me an inaccurate story or when somebody other than you and another– a network, or whatever, because of course, CBS would never do a thing like that right? I have a method of fighting back.”

Does that mean Trump will Tweet at will even after he’s President? To that query, the President-elect said he would be “very restrained.” He added:

“There should be nothing we should be ashamed of. It’s where it’s at. I do believe this.”

Trump also said he’s convinced that Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter were essential to his winning both the GOP primaries and the general election:

“I won. I think that social media has more power than the money they spent, and I think maybe to a certain extent, I proved that.”

While social media may indeed have allowed Trump to aim his message directly to potential voters, it should be noted that in the last days of the campaign he was oddly absent from Twitter. It was reported that aides to the campaign banned the candidate from social media for fear he would post something which might cost him the election by alienating millions of Americans.

So President Trump will use social media but be “very restrained,” he says. And if you believe Donald Trump even knows what the word “restrained” means, then you probably also believe he’s a modest, restrained, and shy person deep down inside.
