Even had you been living in a cave throughout the entire 2015-2016 election cycle, president-elect Donald Trump’s New Year’s Eve tweet would still have been able to tell you all you needed to know about the man.
Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don't know what to do. Love!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 31, 2016
It was a petty invective unworthy of the office he is about to hold. As an example of the man’s sense of mental equilibrium, it was a dizzying display of his total lack of self-control.
Even taken as at face value, as a simple New Year greeting, it showed Trump up for what he is.
A vain, petty little troglodyte, a misanthropic man-child; a fucking joke.

For writer Matt Oswalt, the whole thing reeked of maniacal plots and comic book ink.
this sounds like something the Joker would say right before releasing a swarm of killer bees into Gotham https://t.co/SyKsCHvyuh

His observation did not go unnoticed by Mark Hamill.
The actor best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise is also well-known as the voice of Batman arch-villain the Joker. Having played the character in several TV shows including Batman: The Animated Series, his take on the character’s lunatic mind-set is oft regarded as the definitive one.
To many comic book fans, he is the Joker.
So when Hamill stepped up to the plate and provided some texture to Oswalt’s observation by reading Trump’s tweet out in full character, the results were striking.
In truth, we may never be able to read Trump’s twitter feed in the same way again.

You can never un-hear something like that.
Not that you’d want to really.
Because perhaps Oswalt is on to something. Perhaps Trump is nothing more than a two-dimensional comic book villain, a four-color scoundrel seething over slights both real and imagined.
A man slightly less welcome than a fart in a wet-suit and all the more dangerous for it.

Clay face?
Ah shit man, these puns write themselves.
