President Trump is desperate for a legislative victory. He’s been in office for nearly six months and has nothing tangible to show for it unless you count some executive orders, more than a few of which have been placed on indefinite hold by federal courts.
Now the president sees the chance to keep one of his oft-repeated campaign promises: To repeal and replace Obamacare. But the problem he faces is that the bill released this week by Senators who had been working on a replacement for the Affordable Care Act is more punitive and crueler in some ways than the disaster the House of Representatives narrowly managed to approve in May.
So, being the pathological liar and perpetual adolescent that he is, Trump hopped on Twitter Saturday morning for this:
Democrats slam GOP healthcare proposal as Obamacare premiums & deductibles increase by over 100%. Remember keep your doctor, keep your plan?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 24, 2017
But a glance back at Trump’s tweets during the 2016 campaign prove that he’s not exactly keeping his promises, either:
I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid. Huckabee copied me.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 7, 2015
As we now know, the American Health Care Act (ACA)–aka Trumpcare–would gut Medicaid by nearly a trillion dollars over ten years. It would also mean much higher premiums for those with preexisting conditions and those over 50. Here’s a couple more of the president’s tweets which have come back to haunt him:
The Republicans who want to cut SS & Medicaid are wrong. A robust economy will Make America Great Again! https://t.co/u25yI5T7E8

I am going to save Medicare and Medicaid, Carson wants to abolish, and failing candidate Gov. John Kasich doesn't have a clue – weak!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 31, 2015
Twitter had some cold hard facts for Trump, and they’re virtually guaranteed to piss him off:
Insurance is skyrocking because of you ya clown, you're helping obamacare fail. your trumpcare puts up premiums 1000% stupid. 23mil will die

Trumpcare is "keep your mortician, keep your plot." Just get to your grave a whole lot sooner. A death warrant for millions of Americans pic.twitter.com/7gihmWSYe8

Newsflash: you never ran against Obama! Why so obsessed with beating him at everything? Still mad that his hands and crowd sizes are bigger?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP BLAMING OBAMA! ENOUGH ! WHAT ARE YOU? TWO? pic.twitter.com/4SmEuUrNGj

You PROMISED that you would cover EVERYONE with a LOWER COST and BETTER plan. It was to be THE BEST PLAN with NO CUTS to Medicaid. HUGE LIES

The GOP plan for healthcare in America is a disaster. If this bill is passed, as many as 23 million people will lose their coverage or see it priced out of their reach. We all need to mobilize and stay focused. Call your senators and let them know where you stand on the issue. An easy way to do that is to call the number below and leave a voice message for your senators. Follow the directions and you can contact both of them in a couple of minutes:
