Less than 48 hours after a deranged man shot and killed 59 people and wounded another 500 who were attending a country music festival in Las Vegas, the National Rifle Association (NRA) has finally commented on the massacre, and it’s even more offensive than you could have imagined.
Dana Loesch of The Blaze, who is also a national spokesperson for the NRA and makes frequent appearances on Fox News, saw a press release from the American College of Physicians which said that gun violence is a public health issue and called for a ban of automatic and semiautomatic weapons. So she tweeted out:
Right after we ban pools, cars, cigarettes, alcohol, hands feet & fists. Lives lost due to these constitute an epidemic. https://t.co/vVPgfOdY3Z

Then, shortly after The Hill did a story on the press release from the ACP, Loesch again used her flawed logic to try and twist the issue to the benefit of her paymasters at the NRA:
If it’s a “health issue,” cars, then hand, feet, and fists will be banned first (also pools). https://t.co/IpWDMiSjw3
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) October 3, 2017
With that, Loesch set off a firestorm on social media, and she got plenty of resistance from others on Twitter:
We regulate cars, cigarettes, and alcohol, Dana. Some people are banned from having drivers licenses and some people on parole are banned from drinking and minors are not allowed to purchase alcohol

Oh FFS. False equivalent .

Guns were designed for death. Pools weren't. Intent matters.

I remember the massacre where the guy killed all those people with alcohol, cigarettes, his hands, feet & fists, & a swimming pool. Horrible

Would you be amenable to requiring liability insurance for gun ownership (as is required for car ownership & suggested for pool ownership)?
— Lance (@dclance) October 3, 2017
All these things have more laws and regulations than the @NRA finds acceptable for guns.

Nearly 60 people gunned down dead for no reason, hundreds wounded by the very weapons you lobby for, and you're being sarcastic already?

Grow up. There's literally no good reason for a civilian to carry these things. You're not storming a bunker at Normandy

Cars, to take just one example, are heavily regulated. The fact that you don't want that applied to guns is extremely telling.

It would be nice to think we might one day be able to have a rational discussion in this country about sensible gun laws such as banning semi-automatic rifles, but thanks to people like Dana Loesch and the NRA, that seems unlikely. They’re far too busy swimming in money from the gun manufacturers as blood puddles up around their ankles.
