Could You Spend $80,000 On Snacks? Chris Christie Did

The Governor of New Jersey is known to spend a lot of time at NFL games. Now, a new report is showing us how much money he has spent at those games – and it is QUITE a lot!

According to Watchdog.org, the governor used thousands of dollars from his expense account at NFL games during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

The report says:

“On 58 occasions, Christie used a debit card to pay a total of $82,594 to Delaware North Sportservice, which operates the concessions at MetLife. The governor’s office did not provide any receipts, business reasons or names of individuals entertained, but defended the expense.”

I cannot fathom spending that much on anything, since it would take me a lot of years to even make that much money. So Christie lavishly spending on snacks and food at NFL games seems a bit out of the ordinary.

Maybe I am being too harsh. Ok. Let’s break it down, as many have already, to show just how much money this is. If we divide the total spent, by the amount of games he attended, he would have spend an average of $1,424.03 per game. PER GAME! I have no idea what he could be ordering that would bring him to such a high amount.

Perhaps Christie looks at the 10 most expensive meals at every venue, and buys all of those each time. We know he must have quite a big appetite, but this figure is still quite startling. And to know that he has a public expense account he can just charge these things to makes me a tad bit angry. And jealous.

Christie’s office has defended these expenses, but there aren’t receipts of exactly what the $82, 594 was spent on. But this raises a larger question. Just how much should we know about public figures and politicians? Should we know what they spend money on? Down to specific receipts? Considering that?many expenses are taxypayer funded, a lot of individuals believe we DO have a right to know what they spend and what they use these accounts for exactly.

What do you all believe? Is this much to-do about nothing? Or is this indicative of a lavish and out-of-touch governor? Share your thoughts.
