Asra Nomani, a Muslim woman who also immigrated to the U.S. in 1969 at age 4, made a self described confession of being a Trump supporter on the Washington Post.
When asked about her decision to come forward, Nomani explained that many people who are not supporters of Trump are trying to silence those who are:
“I felt like this entire election year, we have just silenced so many people.”
This “silent voter” for Trump sees herself as a “happy Liberal,” and also claims that there is an unfair stigma to Trump supporters, further explaining how every Trump supporter is classified as a racist, homophobic, person.
She goes on to explain how people who are against Trump can protest; however, when supporters of the Republican Party expressed their support, they were ridiculed.
Though Nomani express that she does not share Trump negative views of immigrants, Muslims, and same sex marriage, she claims that one major reasoning of her decision to vote for Trump is his strong stance on Islamic extremism.
“He is not choosing a path that we had for the last eight years of political correctness that won’t talk about the Islamic state…”
Since her story has been posted on the Washington Post, she has since received hate mail from those on social media who disagree with her views. One specific tweet stating:

In addition to her hate mail, she has also received much positive feedback towards her confession, inspiring other “silent voters” to share their support of Trump as well.

When questioned by CNN Host Carol Costello about what would she say to Muslims who fear Trump, her response was:
“I don’t fear Donald Trump or the policies he talks about. What I fear is the extremist interpretation of Islam that is spilling blood on the streets of our world,”
