John Boehner Calls Trump President A ‘Disaster’ So Far (VIDEO)

Former House Speaker John Boehner doesn’t have a high opinion of President Donald Trump’s administration so far, and he wasn’t shy about sharing it. Boehner was the keynote speaker for the KPMG Global Energy Conference in Houston, where he said that other than getting the House to pass a healthcare bill:

“Everything else he’s done has been a complete disaster.”

He didn’t even seem that impressed about the healthcare bill itself, saying that rather than the calls of a wholesale repeal and replace of Obamacare he would have liked to see an effort to reform the law.

And the criticism didn’t stop there. Trump’s big talk about tax reform was another topic that Boehner had lost hope for:

“I was a little more optimistic about it early in the year; now my odds are 60/40 … The border adjustment tax is deader than a doornail.”

As for the Russian elephant in the room, Boehner emphasized that while it is important for investigators to get to the bottom of the issue, impeachment is a political and not a legal process, and that the Democrats and the media need to remember that. He then warned that the repeated talk of impeachment before any solid evidence is presented will only rile up Trump’s supporters.

And for retirement? Boehner is a happy man now that he’s out of the political limelight. He laughed off ideas of a presidential run:

“I don’t want to be president. I drink red wine. I smoke cigarettes. I golf. I cut my own grass. I iron my own clothes. And I’m not willing to give all that up to be president.”

He doesn’t regret at all his decision to leave Congress, either:

“I wake up every day, drink my morning coffee and say, ‘Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.'”

Not a ringing endorsement of a career in politics, eh? Retirement suits you well, Mr. Boehner.
