Abraham Lincoln was not a member of any Christian Church. ?In fact,Lincoln said:
? That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular?.
?President Lincoln also firmly believed in the separation of church and state, stating:
?I believe in an America where the separation of church and sate is absolute….and? where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him?.
The real history of the United States and the Constitution created by our founding fathers paved the way for the twice elected President Barack Hussein Obama and the celebration of the operation of the American system as intended.? Nevertheless, the extreme and loud voices on the right are out there trying to convince us that President Obama is hellbent on bringing down our Republic taking us down a path which they claim is anything but American.
Take Senator Rand Paul for instance.? On Friday morning, October 11, 2013, Paul appeared before the Values Voter Summit to offer his opinion that President Obama is participating in a ?worldwide war on Christianity?.
This kind of narrative being pushed by people like Senator Paul, and others, is false, ridiculous, and dangerous.? Take the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer who on Thursday, October 10, 2013, praised Russian President Vladimir Putin as a ?Lion of Christianity? for his stance on cracking down against homosexuality and same sex parents in Russia.
Similarly, Massachusetts Pastor Scott Lively of the Scott Lively Ministries, has bragged about the letter he has written to President Putin ?praising him, and the Russian Government, for standing up for the family?.
Examine the disgusting display put on over the weekend led by Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz and far right wing whacko, Larry Klayman, staging a faux populist demonstration using the World War II Memorial and elderly veterans as props. Mr. Klayman implored the people to rise up and:
?wage a second nonviolent American Revolution? urging our twice elected President ? to ?leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come up with his hands out.”
The false claim that the President is a Kenyan born Muslim who was not eligible to be our President has never been formerly denounced as false by any elected Republican, other than by Senator John McCain during the 2008 Presidential campaign.? Noted Republicans from Karl Rove to Governor Jeb Bush to Secretary Colin Powell have called on the GOP to stop this nonsense.? Yet these seditious kinds displays continue and proliferate.
Article VI of the the United States Constitution states, in relevant part, that:
?No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.?
These displays are being presented to us by folks who are not patriotic Americans, who do not understand the true nature of the American system and our democracy, who are attempting to dupe others into believing that they are standing up for our Constitution and for American values.? They are doing nothing of the sort.
No, a simple reading of the Constitution tells us that even if the President were a Muslim who read the Quran and bowed to Allah on a daily basis, then that would be exactly what was intended by the founding fathers, and the GOP which revels in the glory of Americans pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, then becoming successful should be embracing the story of this man, Barack Hussein Obama, as quintessentially American.? Sadly, this has not been the case for so many on the right.
The world was on pins and needles following the end of WWII in 1945 until the Berlin Wall came tumbling down in November, 1989, signifying the end of the Cold War between the Western democracies and the Soviet Union.? The GOP 2012 Presidential Candidate, Governor Mitt Romney, who, along with the Mormon Church, has been linked to the fervently anti Communist John Birch Society, believes that Russia is the main geo-political foe of the United States.
To proclaim that the former KGB officer cold warrior, Vladimir Putin, is? the ?Lion of Christianity? protecting American values is the height of? irresponsibility.? It is not our twice duly elected President Barack Hussein Obama that real Americans should fear.? The reality is that it is people like Senator Paul, and Senator Cruz, and Governor Palin, along with the Pastor Fischer and Pastor Lively who should be feared.
How unlike Lincoln this unholy alliance that is the modern GOP has become.? Lincoln understood the reasons why a person’s religious beliefs should never be relevant during a campaign for office and why no religious doctrine should ever be translated into public law.? President Lincoln would be appalled and saddened to find the state of affairs that we have today.
