Rafael Cruz, father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), appeared on Glenn Beck’s show this week to let us all know that we are becoming just like Cuba before communism. On the show he said:
“Well did you know Glenn we have a ministry of misinformation in this country it’s called the liberal media and they just tell us what they want us to hear. ?They are rewriting history because they have an agenda and unfortunately the agenda it’s an evil agenda. It’s an agenda for destroying what this country is all about”
One might wonder why we should look to Mr. Cruz as an expert about such things. The right wing narrative is that Mr. Cruz fled Cuba after the Cuban Revolution due to the communist take over. The truth is that as a?teenager Mr. Cruz was imprisoned and abused by the Batista government. He then fought with the Castro revolutionaries against Batista until he left on a student visa to the U.S. This is why he ended up in Texas where he was attending college rather than Florida like other people fleeing during the revolution.
If there is this broad “ministry of misinformation” that is leading us all down the road to Communism, why then are Rafael Cruz and other right wing talkers still allowed to say whatever they please on the radio and TV? I just remembered: because we are in America and still protected by the 1st Amendment.
