Pat Robertson Thinks ‘Girl On Girl Movies’ Make People Gay

Once again, Pat Robertson has been moralizing on one of his favorite topics: homosexuality. Today, a woman called in to?The 700 Club?to solicit Robertson’s advice regarding her 21-year-old daughter’s news that she is in a relationship with another woman. As per usual on this and many other subjects, Robertson’s advice was misguided and bigoted. He told the caller:

?She needs somebody to help her get her identity straight.?She may not be right in this, she may have thought she has a crush on some older girl along the way and she’s actually homosexual when she’s not, I don’t know. Why is she that way? Was she molested when she was younger???

Of course, everything Pat Robertson has ever said regarding homosexuality has been patently offensive, and often downright harmful. I am sure there are countless families who have serious problems after taking Robertson’s advice. As someone who is gay who comes from a family where homosexuality is often frowned upon, I can safely attest to the fact that the lack of acceptance has lasting effects. Anyway, Robertson didn’t stop there. After his co-host, Terry Meeuwsen chimed in, saying that folks are “telling kids to explore, it’s crazy,” Robertson continued, this time blaming “girl-on-girl movies, and saying:

?They’re getting straight actresses to play lesbians and straight men to play homosexuals and if you say anything against homosexuality you are just hooted out of court.”

That’s because not everyone is a raging bigot, Mr. Robertson. I know it is so, so hard for you to believe, but not everyone thinks like you.

Robertson concluded:

?You need to love your daughter and give her a chance to work this out because if she gets deeper and deeper in it, sooner or later she is going to be disillusioned and say, ?this is wrong, I want to come out of it.”

I guess it never occurred to old Uncle Pat that most young adults these days, Christian or otherwise, have very little or no problem with homosexuality. People are evolving, Mr. Robertson. Either come along with us, or fade into the dustbins of history- on the wrong side.
