Some days the news just writes itself. This is one of those days. Lindsay Lohan and her mother, Dina, are suing Fox News, host Sean Hannity, and Michelle Fields for defamation as the result of comments made on Hannity’s show in Feb. 2014. Specifically, Hannity and Fields were discussing the recent death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who overdosed on heroin.

Fields, who was a guest on Hannity’s show, remarked that Lindsay was a “train wreck,” and then added:

“Lindsay Lohan’s mother is doing cocaine with her.”?

Documents filed in Manhattan Supreme Court allege that Fields’ comments:

“…falsely, inappropriately and shockingly stated, unequivocally and as a ‘matter of fact’ that ?Lindsay Lohan’s mother is doing cocaine with her.?”

The statements filed in court by attorneys for the Lohans also read:

“…Fields made the false, defamatory, heartless, derogatory comment in the context of the show’s topic. […] (It) was a direct smear on the character/reputation of (the Lohans) … (and it) was a totally irresponsible and malicious innuendo … (that) Lindsay Lohan might become the next celebrity to join the obituary list.”

It should be noted that only 18 months before the comments Fields made on Hannity’s show, Lindsay Lohan made a frantic call to 911 in which she claimed her mother was out of control and using cocaine. The younger Lohan later said she?was?lying when she made the accusation.

Sean Hannity has long been known as a purveyor of the lowest common denominator when it comes to the “news” he presents on his Fox News evening talk show. He has even been known to lie outright when such a tactic serves his interests.

Lohan and her mother are requesting that Fox delete the segment from their website and are also seeking an unspecified amount of punitive damages.
