Oklahoma GOP: Sorry You All ‘Misinterpreted’ Our Comparing The Hungry To Wild Animals

I like to call what the Oklahoma Republican Party did when they got caught red-handed comparing those on Food Stamps to wild animals a non-apology apology. See, they aren’t sorry they posted the message below on their Facebook page. Nah, they’re just upset they got caught and that we all made such a big deal out of it. Here’s the original post, which has since been deleted:

After the massive public outcry began to hit the Oklahoma GOP, their state director, Randy Brogdon, came out and said the post had been “misinterpreted by many,” and added that he wanted to offer his:

?Apologies for those who were offended–that was not my intention.?

Let me take a moment and deconstruct that non-apology apology: It was “misinterpreted by many.” Really? It was in English, so how was it not clear that you compared hungry children to wild animals and urged not feeding them? And it was not your intention to offend anyone? You mean to tell me you didn’t know that kind of language would offend anyone with a brain and a heart? Great, so now take time to issue and actual apology, Mr. Brogdon!

Surprising no one, Oklahoma Republican Governor Mary Fallin–taking time out from vowing to execute every person on death row regardless of whether or not they suffer during the process–said Brogdon’s apology was good enough for her because clearly the post:

?Was not intentionally disparaging any group of people?

Well, except for everyone in Oklahoma who receives SNAP benefits, Governor.

But Brogdon’s fake mea culpa was not enough for some other GOP legislators.?State Rep. Josh Cockroft remarked:

?There are many people who find themselves in difficult situations and in need of assistance. For those, we reach out and help. As a conservative legislator, I seek ways to help reduce the numbers of those dependent on welfare programs; through these programs when we must, and through our families, churches, and communities when we can.?

Echoing those sentiments was?Rep. Randy Grau, who said in a statement:

?As someone who believes and attempts to live out my conviction that EVERY LIFE MATTERS, there is no excuse for dehumanizing our fellow man.”

Maybe it’s time for Randy Brogdon and anyone else who had a hand in this fiasco to resign. If you agree, feel free to let them know on their Facebook page, the link for which is right here:
