Tom Brokaw On The Donald: If I Had To Cover Trump Every Night ‘I’d Call In Sick’

Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw is very happy to be retired during this Presidential campaign, and he isn’t shy about saying so.

Appearing at the National Book Festival on Saturday to promote his latest book, A Lucky Life Interrupted, Brokaw remarked that he’s incredibly glad he doesn’t have to talk about Donald Trump on television every night:

“If I were there now, and leading with Donald Trump every night, I would call in sick.”

Brokaw’s remarks were met with applause and cheers from the gathered crowd. Apparently they are also as sick of seeing the lies, hatred, ignorance, and outright inanity of the Trump candidacy as the rest of us, save for the 25-30 percent which claims to support this preening self-promoter.

During a recent interview, Brokaw said that the unforeseen — such as Trump’s sudden rise  — can also affect the campaigns of other candidates:

“In politics, particularly presidential races, my oft repeated mantra is the UFO rule. At some point, the unforeseen will occur. Gary Hart and Monkey Business, Dukakis failing to defend Kitty, Bush 41 and the Perot factor. What the UFO will be this time, I don’t know yet, but there will be one — and not just for Trump. All the candidates in both parties are vulnerable.”

We can all hope that Trump’s political stock will soon begin to fall, both because we are sick and tired of hearing from him, and also because what he offers the country is nothing but division and destruction under the guise of Making America Great Again. We would be a lot greater if he vanished from the scene.
