Where do I begin when it comes to TV evangelist and religious grifter Pat Robertson? Yes, he’s a moron. And yes, he’s also willfully ignorant on so many topics. He is also a hypocrite and a racist, homophobic ideologue who has tried to pass off hate speech as the word of God. I can only imagine how unhappy that makes God.

Now we have Brother Pat on his show, “The 700 Club,” predicting that the Lord is about to punish the United States because the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage. Of course, he’s been predicting the end of the world and other patently ridiculous things ever since the ruling was handed down earlier this year.

The United States, Robertson proclaimed, has turned into the Biblical city of Sodom now that it has:

“Enshrined sodomy into the United States Constitution.”

Here’s what else this utterly clueless minister of hate and division said:

“Now it’s a constitutional right for sodomites to marry each other. The wrath of God is revealed against this stuff. I don’t want the wrath of God to hit this country, it’s a great country, I’d like to see America continue strong, but this is one way of weakening it. First of all, we’re going to have this financial collapse. We’re setting up for a massive financial collapse and I think if God is going to hurt this country that’s probably the way he’d do it.”

But I’m quite sure that if you promise to send a generous contribution to Pat, he will pray that the economic collapse avoids you. And something tells me that even if the economy were to tank tomorrow, Pat and his minions at the 700 Club would be just fine. I’m willing to bet he’s already salted away millions of dollars of money he managed to scam out of senior citizens by using fear and terror to induce them to send their hard-earned savings to him.
