Rick Santorum Can’t Name One Rubio Accomplishment On The ‘Morning Joe’

Marco Rubio may want to ask Rick Santorum to stop endorsing him after this morning’s train wreck of an interview. Appearing on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe,’ Santorum seemed like a deer in headlights when asked a very simple question regarding Rubio.

The downward spiral started when host Joe Scarborough asked:

“What do you list as Marco Rubio’s top accomplishment that made you decide to endorse him?”

Santorum responded by saying:

“Well I mean I would just say that there’s a guy who’s been able to, number one, win a tough election in Florida and pull people together from a variety of different spots. This is a guy that I think can work together with people. That’s the thing that I like about him the most. He’s someone that brings people together.”

So the first thing Santorum likes is that Rubio won a tough election. Alright then. The thing he likes the most is that Rubio can bring people together. Now this is the same Rubio that just slammed President Obama for giving a speech at a mosque. The same guy that wants to monitor all Muslims and claims Obama is spouting divisive political rhetoric. Sounds reasonable to me.

Now it was time for the hard question. Scarborough asked:

“So but he’s been in the Senate for four years. Can you name his top accomplishment in the Senate, actually working in the Senate doing something that tilted your decision to Marco Rubio?”

To this question, Santorum gathered all of his Republican strength and answered:

“You know, here’s what I would say about that, my feeling on Marco is someone who has tremendous potential, tremendous gifts. If you look at being a minority in the United States Senate in a year when nothing got, four years where nothing got done, I guess it’s hard to say they’re accomplishments. I mean, tell me what happened during that four years that was accomplishment for anybody? I mean it was a complete gridlock.”

After admitting that nothing got done, Scarborough then reminded Santorum that Republicans had the majority for the past two years. After a little back and forth, Scarborough continued to push Santorum for an answer on what Rubio had accomplished. In all, Santorum couldn’t really name anything.

During the rest of the interview, Santorum looked like he was being deposed in a criminal case. If he could have run, he would have. Let it be remembered that Rubio has taken some heat for missing Senate votes and not doing his job while on the campaign trail.

Regardless, you know what they say, “With friends like these, who needs enemies?”
