Trump Tells CNN Host He Gets Audited Because He’s A ‘Strong Christian’

One of the main topics of discussion at last night’s GOP debate in Houston was why Donald Trump refuses to release his tax returns. 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney has suggested Trump may be hiding something potentially explosive in the returns, but Trump maintains that his reticence relates to the fact that he is currently being audited by the IRS. He also whined that he has been audited for the past 12 or 14 years (he couldn’t recall which one), and that it seems unfair.

In a post-debate interview CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Trump went full paranoid and lobbed out the suggestion that he might be the target of the IRS because he’s such a “strong Christian.” He began by telling Cuomo:

“I’m always audited by the IRS, which I think is very unfair. I don’t know whether it’s maybe because of religion or because of something else, maybe because I’m doing this (running for president).”

Perhaps sensing that Trump was about to make an even bigger fool of himself, Cuomo encouraged him to go on, and Trump gladly obliged:

“Well, maybe because of the fact that I’m a strong Christian and I feel strongly about it, so maybe there’s a bias.”

Trump is such a strong Christian that he has remarked he has never had to ask for God’s forgiveness because he has never done anything wrong to require him seeking God’s pardon. Meaning that he has never read this verse from the Book of Romans:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

When Cuomo asked if Trump was indeed making such a patently bullshit reason for the audits, Trump continued down this same ridiculous line of rhetoric:

“Well, you see what’s happened. You have many religious groups that are complaining about that. They’ve been complaining about it for a long time.”

But you’re not a religious group, Donald. You’re merely a predatory real estate developer who exploits others and then makes a buck off it. That’s about as far from Christian behavior as I can imagine. Which brings to mind another Bible verse that Trump needs to be aware of:

“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”
